Throw together murder, Second World War crimes, people trafficking and conspiracy and you have a heady mix. This thriller, set in the days of the 1990s has all of this and much more. The intriguing story begins dramatically with the death of a private detective. Examination of his current case load and his phone records leads the two police protagonists to investigate four main lines of enquiry regarding possible suspects. The first concerns a Chancellor of the Exchequer and the two police investigators are warned off this line. When they refuse and persist they receive a more powerful warning from the Secret Service.

This line of enquiry appears to pull together two of the private detective’s mysterious cases. The two other lines concern two Jewish businessmen with familial links to the Polish city of Przemysl. Both appear to have something to hide.As the results of the police enquiries unfold the central plot becomes intertwined with a parallel story set in Przemysl in the Second World War, the Eastern front and embedded within the turmoil that was Germany in the immediate aftermath of the war.All of these elements come together in a final denouement which is as unexpected as it is dramatic. This superbly crafted tale is a must-read for all those who enjoy a mystery thriller well told.
